Why LAIKA?

Since Lewis and Clark traversed Oregon more than 200 years ago, the state has had a long history of attracting freedom seekers – those looking to escape the norm and blaze new trails. The list of famous, innovative Oregonians includes Herbert Hoover, Linus Pauling, James Beard, The Decemberists, Ken Kesey, Gus Van Sant, The Shins, and Matt Groening.

This Oregon spirit of courageous independence is threaded throughout LAIKA's history and is the guiding principle in the building of its future. The well-known animation production company evolved into a studio producing feature films, broadcast and interactive content, commercials, branded entertainment, music videos, and short films for various platforms.

Both divisions of LAIKA, Inc. share a common culture that values creative thinking and break-through artistry. Whether in story telling, character development, or animation performance, LAIKA encourages its staff to think creatively.

Where We Reside

LAIKA currently takes up residence in two locations within the Greater Portland area. The historic, tree-lined Nob Hill/Northwest Portland district is home to the majority of the company’s operations, including the entire LAIKA/house division.

To accommodate LAIKA’s growth, construction is beginning on a multi-million-dollar 30-acre animation campus nestled 12 miles south of Portland. The new state-of-the-art studio will treat people to the optimal work-life balance with an indoor/outdoor fitness center, restaurant, and café that will stand alongside elaborate stop-motion and CG workspaces.
