FAQs

REGULAR STAFF refers to full-time employees, who are typically scheduled to work at least forty (40) hours per week. Regular staff does not include employees in temporary positions or those hired to work on a particular project.

ASSOCIATE STAFF refers to full-time employees: 1) who have worked for at least six months as a Project Staff employee (as defined below) and who have received a written offer to become an Associate Staff employee; or 2) who are hired for particular projects that are expected to be completed over an extended period of time, typically six months or longer. In limited circumstances, some projects for which Associate Staff are employed may be less than six months.

PROJECT STAFF refers to employees who are hired as interim replacements, supplemental temporary labor, or to assist in the completion of a specific project. Employment assignments in this category are of a limited duration, typically less than six months.

  • How do I apply for a position at LAIKA? 
  • To apply for a position on the LAIKA career page, please click on the link. You will be instructed on how to apply (allowable résumé formats include: PDF (.pdf), MS Word (.doc), Plain Text (.txt), Rich Text Format (.rtf), and/or HTML (.htm/.html) and any additional details you may need regarding the submission of reels and/or portfolios. For PDF files, please be sure the PDF is text-based vs. character-based in order to ensure your resume is uploaded to your profile.

  • How do I upload files to my profile? 
  • At this time, our system allows for the uploading of up to 5 files - totaling a maximum of 3 megabytes - during the initial application process. The types of files include: doc, xls, txt, rtf, pdf, gif, jpg, htm and html

  • How do I submit my reel and portfolio? 
  • In accordance with LAIKA's submission policy, we cannot receive or review your materials unless you download and sign a Materials Submission Agreement Upon receipt of the submission agreement, we will review your original materials to determine whether your skills meet our staffing needs. We may want to (but are not obligated to) keep your materials on file for reference in the event that our needs change. Do not submit original work as we will not return materials submitted to us.

  • When will someone contact me regarding my application? 
  • Due to the volume of resumes, reels, and portfolios we receive, we are unable to contact every applicant. You will receive a confirmation email, however, acknowledging the successful submission of your resume and completion of your profile. We will contact you by email or phone if we determine you fit well for a position.

  • Should I reapply, and if so, how often? 
  • Update your profile any time there is a change (e.g. you’ve moved, you have a new phone number, etc.). Otherwise, it is recommended you update your profile every six months in order to keep your file active.

  • How long do you keep my resume on file? 
  • Your resume will remain in our system for 12 months.

  • I am not authorized to work in the United States; can I still apply for a job at LAIKA? 
  • We encourage anyone interested in opportunities at LAIKA to familiarize themselves with the required qualifications for the various visas (O-1, TN, H1-B, etc.) and if you meet those qualifications, apply. USCIS Home Page

  • Do you hire for staff positions, or are they project-based? 
  • LAIKA generally offers two types of employment opportunities for interested candidates.

    Project staff and freelance jobs are temporary positions that do not include benefits, and are designed to fill short-term business needs of less than one year.

    Regular staff positions, that include the provision of benefits, are openings that the studio is forecasting a business need for - for over one year.

  • Do you hire for freelance positions? 
  • On occasion, LAIKA has short-term opportunities available.  In most cases, individuals will be required to work on-site during normal business hours.

  • What kind of compensation can I expect from LAIKA as an Animator or a TD?

  • What kind of benefits do you offer? 
  • LAIKA offers a competitive benefit package.  Regular staff benefits include:

  • Do you offer relocation? 
  • LAIKA offers relocation assistance for some positions.  The benefit amount varies depending on the type of position, department budgets and production schedules.

  • How does LAIKA acquire its story material for movies? 
  • LAIKA does not accept story material unless it is represented by a WGA signatory rep i.e. agent or attorney.

  • Is it possible to set up a studio tour?
